夏祭り

夏と言えば、やっぱり夏祭りでしょう。

全日本で色々な場所で特別な夏祭りが行います。

海外ではどうですか。

びっくりしたんですが、実はシンガポールとペナンも夏祭りが行いますよ。

先週の土曜日、初めでシンガポールの夏祭りを参加しました。

場所はシンガポール空港に近く日本人学校で、入門料は２ドルでした。

校舎内は２０ぐらいの屋台店がありました。販売したのはたこ焼きや、お好み焼き、焼きそばなどの日本食でした。もちろんビルとか、アイスとかもありました。

そして、サッカー場の真ん中四角の舞台が建たされました。舞台で色々な演奏やダンスがありました。演奏者は幼稚園の子供から、６０歳のフラダンスをするおばさんまでもいます。皆はシンガポールで住んでいる日本人です。

それ以外、射的とか、ヨーヨー釣りとか、日本の伝統なゲームコーナーもありました。

当日の参加者は８０００人ぐらいでした。日本人以外、ローカルの人もいました。皆は浴衣を着て、舞台の周りでピクニックしました。まるで、日本にいる見たいです。

そして、私の田舎ペナンも夏祭りが行います。その祭りは「盆踊り」と言います。ペナンに住んでいる日本人は２７００人ぐらいですが、毎年「盆踊り」を行って、今年のはもう１９回盆踊りです。

場所はUNESCO世界遺産区のEsplanadeです。古いイギリス建て物を包まれ、海も近い、綺麗し、凄く気持ちよい場所です。今年はシンガポールにいるので、今回の盆踊りを参加しませんでした。

ペナンの盆踊りは１００ぐらいの屋台店がありました。日本食はもちろん、ローカルのペナンの食べ物もありました。Char Koay Teowとか Laksa、 Pizza とか、腹減ったなぁ～

日本の伝統なゲームコーナーもありました。シンガポールに比べて、ペナンの方がもっと面白いゲームがありました。金魚すぐ目か、お化け屋敷もありました。

もちろん、ペナンの盆踊りもサッカー場の真ん中四角の舞台が建たされました。演奏者なら、日本人とマレーシア人の組み合わせダンスグルプや、沖縄からの演奏者もいました。

そして、ペナンの盆踊りの一番面白いのはやっぱり花火です。毎年祭りが終わる前、きっと１０分ぐらいの花火をします。

今年の参加者は５０，０００人でした。凄くビックリした数字ですね。

日本見たい、でも日本じゃないの雰囲気はとても特別ですよ～

Speaking of summer, there will always be Summer Festival.

In Japan, there are lots of different events happening in different part of the country.

How about the overseas?

In the case, you’ll be shocked to find that Singapore and Penang too celebrate Summer Festival.

Last Saturday was my 1^st time attending Singapore’s Natsu Matsuri. The venue was at Changi Japanese School and the entrance fee was 2 dollar.

There were around 20 stalls selling various Japanese foods i.e. Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki, Yakisoba and etc. inside the school compound. Not to mention beer and air-cream were available too.

Outside on the school soccer field, there was a square shaped stage which numerous performances ongoing. The performers were as young as kindergarten students up until the 60s Hula dancers ‘obasan’. These performers are those Japanese who live in Singapore.

 Other than that, there were also some traditional Japanese game stalls available, such as ‘Yo-yo fishing’, ‘Gun shooting’ and etc.

There were around 8000 attendee on that day. Japanese or local wise, most of them wore the traditional Japanese Yukata and picnic around the stage. This feeling was like you are actually in Japan.

And of course my hometown Penang too has its own Summer Festival. We called it ‘Bon Odori’. Although there are only 2700 Japanese residents in Penang, nonetheless the ‘’Bon Odori’ has been going on for the 19^th consecutive years.

The venue of Penang’s Bon Odori is at Esplanade the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by old British buildings and near the sea, this venue is very beautiful and comfortable.

Due to the fact that I’m currently living in Singapore, I couldn’t manage to attend this year’s Penang’s Bon Odori.

Last year Penang’s Bon Odori had around 100 stalls selling not only Japanese food but also Penang local delights such as Char Koay Teow, Laksa, Pizza and so on. Thinking of them makes me hungry!

There were also the Japanese Game corner, by comparing with Singapore’s, the Penang’s Bon Odori has more games like ‘gold fish catching’ and they even have a ‘haunted house’.

Of course there was also a square shaped stage in the middle of the soccer field. While most of the performers consist of Japanese and local Malaysian groups, this year they also invite the Okinawan Ryukyu Dancers.

Last but not least, the spotlight of the Bon Odori – Fireworks. Every year before the end of the festival there will always be a 10 min fireworks show.

This year’s Bon Odori attendees were around 50,000 people. What a shocking amount!

If you happen to have a chance to attend one of these festivals, please don’t hesitate to go!

You’ll get a special feeling as if you are in Japan but in fact you’re not~
